This is the Parliament building. It is a really pretty building, I love the Gothic style. We went up the the Peace Tower and looked out the observation deck and also saw the Memorial Chamber which is a room honoring Canada's fallen soldiers. They have 7 books in the Chamber filled with the names of men who gave their lives in different wars.
This is a statue of Terry Fox. He was diagnosed with cancer and they were forced to amputate his leg. The night before it had to be amputated he read on article about an amputee who ran the New York Marathon. This inspired him, and after his surgery he spent the next 14 months training. He told others that we was training for a marathon, but really he was planning on running across Canada to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. He ran for 143 day and made it 3,293 miles before he was force to go to the hospital. The cancer had spread to his lungs and he died 9 months later. He was able to raise $1.7 million, and the Terry Fox run is held each year to continue raising money for cancer research. Pretty amazing guy.
This is the Senate Chamber. The big red chair is where the speaker sits. There are murals all along the walls showing events from WWI, and there is also a stained glass ceiling shows coat of arms and royal symbols. The chairs up above are where the public can come and sit in when the Senate meets.

Hey, I just realized I can leave comments. Beautiful buildings. you are so lucky to see so many things while you are in Montreal!See you in April
That looks really cool! How come no one told me about Ottawa either? Is that fire on the water? And is that lady taking a picture of Ryan's butt? Busted!!
I love little day trips, and that one seemed pretty educational Liz. You're learning a lot about Canadian history. I'm very impressed that you are going to read the book, North and South, before you come. That would be awesome. Maybe I can read it too before you come. Let me go to the library and see how long it is before I commit, but I'll be keeping tabs on you with the book.
guess what Liz!!!! I don't know if you'll get this comment, but I'm mostly done with the book, "North and South." You've inspired me to read it too and now I can't stop. Have you gotten it yet and started? Anyways, let me know. see you soon.
yo! I'm done, I must say that I was disappointed at the ending. Just to warn you, the movie is pretty different from the book but I still love the movie and I love the book, if it just had a better ending. Guess what? Megan is reading it too, so that we can all watch it together and be learned about the book! I can't wait till April now! Too bad you can't get the book in paper, then you could really speed things up. How do you like it so far? Is it your thing? Anyways, see ya later.
Liz!!!! Are you done yet? I'm surprised how quickly you picked up speed. So.... how did you like the ending (if you finished)? If it seemed rushed, it was because it was, it explains it at the beginning of the book. Anyways, I know another really good book. "Ella enchanted" Its a middle school book but I think its really good and I looove the love story. Prince Char is the perfect gentleman and the ending is sooo good. Ahhh, the movie can't compare. I love romances, although I don't think I would ever want to be in one myself. anyways, catch you later. What day exactly are you coming and how long are you staying?
