Notre-Dame Basilica

Yesterday I went out with some friends to explore Old Montreal.  This was the 3rd time that I've gone to see this part of the city, but there are still so many things to discover!  My favorite thing that we saw was the Notre-Dame Basilica.  It is a massive and elaborate basilica - and probably the best know church in Montreal.

As soon as you walk in the door of the building, this is what you see.  I love all of the blue color - you don't see that very often in churches!  There is so much detail and ornamentation everywhere you look.  One unique thing about this church is that the stained glass windows show scenes from Montreal's history, instead of Bible scenes.  But don't worry, there are plenty of other statues and carvings to show bible scenes and religious figures.

The woodwork in the Basilica is amazing!  The pillars look almost like they are covered with wall paper - but it is all carved and painted wood.  The ceiling is so rich looking it seems as if it is covered with fabric.  Beautiful!
