Lake Placid

On Saturday, we took a day trip to Lake Placid.  It's only about 2 1/2 hours away and it's the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics.  Remember the movie Miracle - where the USA wins gold in Hockey?  This is were it all happened.  (Of course, Ryan had to remind me who won gold THIS year)
This is the site of the ski jump.  It's hard to tell by this picture, but that is a super steep jump they go off, and the hill is a long way down!  I was very impressed that people are brave enough to do this.
There were some kids practicing on a much smaller jump into the water.  They were also practicing their form on a few trampolines they had set up.  A good way to practice when there is no snow.
Two of hockey's greatest...Herb Brooks...Ryan Brimacombe.
USA! USA! USA!
This is the ice where the games were played.  We couldn't go out on it this time, but when Ryan was a kid he came here with his family and was able to step onto center ice.  It was really cool for him, being a young kid obsessed with hockey, to be able to step on the ice where the Olympics were held.
We happen to come on the same weekend as a triathlon and ironman event.  There were 3000 athletes competing.  This is a picture of all of their bikes lined up and ready to go for the race the next day.  Being around all of the athletes and race site got us pumped up a bit.  On the drive home we kept talking about going for a run when we got there.  The enthusiasm only lasted a few hours, through.  By the time we got home (around midnight), it didn't sound like such a good idea anymore.
